Learner driver training with Premier Driving School Adelaide is conducted according to the standards of the South Australian Government Competency Based Training & Assessment course in The Driving Companion, to best prepare the student to be a confident, safe and courteous driver and to obtain a P1 Provisional Licence.

There are currently 2 options for obtaining your P1 Provisional Licence in South Australia. Premier Driving School Adelaide is now accredited for both methods.

Option 1 – Vehicle On Road Test (VORT).

This method requires the learner driver to pass a practical driving test with a VORT Authorised Examiner.

The benefit of the VORT option is that it is normally a less expensive and faster method of gaining a P1 Provisional Licence, particularly if accompanied by quality, supervised driving practice. The training provided is still based on the CBT&A standard but in a more compressed form. Many students of Premier Driving School have successfully passed their VORT after only 5 lessons due to highly informative and effective instruction. In addition, the VORT option involves only one test at the end rather than several CBT&A assessments.

The VORT test takes approximately 50 minutes and can be undertaken in either the instructor’s car or your own vehicle. Passing the VORT requires a successful demonstration of 5 slow speed manoeuvres as well as a general drive component. The VORT is organised for you with experienced and friendly assessors and combined with a pre-test warm-up with the instructor to best provide a successful outcome for the student.

The VORT may be attempted at any time but is generally conducted on or toward the completion of the learner driver’s minimum, mandatory 75 hours of supervised driving practice.

Option 2 – Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A) or “Logbook Method”.

This method requires having driving lessons with a CBT&A Authorised Examiner and to demonstrate competency in all 30 Tasks in The Driving Companion. In this case, both the driver training and assessment are conducted by the same Motor Driving Instructor. If competency is not demonstrated, further training is provided prior to reassessment and this process continues until the student demonstrates competency to the South Australian standard. As a result, this method requires more lessons than the VORT method.

The CBT&A method allows the learner driver’s skills to be developed and assessed over time and provides for more repetition as the student progresses through the 30 Tasks via the Task assessment and review process.

The CBT&A method concludes with a final driving assessment of the student’s road skills and traffic management in medium to heavy traffic (Task 30).

Lorraine’s approach to driving instruction is immensely practical and caring, focusing on the needs of the student with a strong emphasis on safety. We engaged Lorraine after a less than satisfactory experience elsewhere and found her openness and warmth settling and her sensible and transparent approach refreshing. Mikaela was able to present for her test after only three lessons with Lorraine who took her through the entire testing process seamlessly, taking the stress out of the experience for an excellent outcome“, Steve, parent.
